Helen Keller's Childhood
She was not born blind or deaf. she became deaf and blind when she was 19 months old. Dctors believe that it could have been scarlet fever or meningitis. the illness didn't last a long time but it left her deaf and blind. She also couldn't speak. more than 60 home-made signs to communicate to people. Her and her father set out for advice for Helen. They eventually came in contact with Anne Sullivan. In the third of March, 1887, and three months before Helen Keller was 7 years old Anne Sullivan became Helen's tutor. Anne was visually impaired and was 20 years old. This was the beginning of a 49 year relationship.
